Call for Application: MTP Expert on Economics of Processing

 

1. Background

In the consolidation of their sector organization efforts, the African Cashew Alliance (ACA) and GIZ/ComCashew project want to consolidate the achievements, upgrade, and reinforce the capacity of local actors, and transfer knowledge to partners and target groups. In this context, GIZ/ComCashew, with support from ACA, introduced the “Master Training Program” (MTP). Several editions have been held already in which hundreds of experts have been trained between 2014 and 2020. To complete the last training sessions of the current running editions and to prepare and deliver editions 10, and 12, the ComCashew project through its MTP partner, the African Cashew Alliance (ACA) is seeking the services of qualified experts to serve in the role of Expert on Economics of processing and Expert in Processing of cashew nuts and Management for session 3 of editions 10, and 12.

The MTP aims to: 

  • Create a pool of qualified experts on the cashew value chain in West African countries (Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana, also reaching out to other West-African countries - e.g.  Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo, and Mali); and
  • Reach out to East African countries;
  • Facilitate the regional exchange of knowledge, learning and innovation.

The purpose of this aspect of the MTP is to awaken the participants' knowledge of the techniques of cashew processing and the management of the entire process of transformation and of a processing unit. This requires two (2) presentations; 1) on the topic of Economics of Processing, Leadership and Communication and 2) on Processing of cashew nuts and Management issues.

2. Required profile of the Consultant

Expert on Economics of Processing, leadership, and Communications

  • Should have 10 years’ experience in cashew nuts processing.
  • Must have good knowledge in the management of the nut processing process and good knowledge in the management of a cashew processing unit.
  • Must have very good knowledge of the different types of leadership development modules.
  • Must have expertise on the above-mentioned topics and understand other aspects of the cashew value chain.

Expert in cashew processing and management

  • Should have experience in cashew processing unit management.
  • Must have 5 years’ experience in production and food safety management of a cashew processing unit.

3. Consultancy description and tasks

This consultancy contract shall cover activities for the following training sessions:

217th to 21st May Edition 10 Session 3 Burkina Faso 
21st to 25th June Edition 12 Session 3 Ghana (Online/ Virtual- no travel intended)

The tasks are defined as follow:

Edition 10, and 12 (2021),

Preparation and re-design of the presentation topics, based on Adult Learning Principles, lessons learnt from previous editions and training needs of participants.

  • Attend debriefings during the training sessions with the resource persons, resource and logistics team and managements of ComCashew and ACA.
  • Deliver detailed reports on each training session providing details on the Training materials development topics and the outcomes, and make recommendations for subsequent sessions.
  • Participate in the training sessions and assist the resource persons and teams to ensure training is delivered to the utmost satisfaction of participants.

4. Expected Results

  • A training report is delivered at the end of each session. 
  • At the end of the session, participants will be better equipped with cashew nut processing.
  • They would understand the hidden/successful secrets of the cashew nut companies.
  • Also, the presentation will help participants to learn more about how to configure cashew processing in businesses and manage the entire process of processing.
  • In addition, all questions (from participants) related to the theme presented are answered and participants will be able to use the precepts taught.

5. Duration of contract

The successful consultant will be engaged from 17th May 2021 to 25th June 2021. Within this period all the above-expected results of the consultancy will have to be completed and finalized.  A total of 2 Training sessions are planned for and the consultant will be responsible for all these training during this period. The consultant will be required to be physically present at the venue in Burkina Faso and the session in Ghana will be fully only.

6. Application process

Interested persons or firms should send in their CV/Resumes and a cover letter detailing experiences and qualifications relevant to the tasks described. All received applications will be reviewed and scored based on the required profile of the Expert(s) as described above.

In Addition, applicants must send in a separate document a brief Financial proposal detailing the number of days required for the tasks, their gross daily rate and the total gross fees. A maximum of 2 consultants will be required. The sessions will be held mainly physical and online as described under Section 3 above. Only shortlisted applicants will have their financial proposals considered.
