Country Overview

Government and legal system: Parliamentarian Republic based on French civil law system and customary law. The Politics of Burkina Faso takes place in a framework of a presidential republic, whereby the President of Burkina Faso is head of state and head of government, within a multi-party system. The government exercises the executive power, and legislative power is vested in both the government and parliament. The Judiciary is independent of the executive and the legislature.
