First Cashew Processor in Cote d'Ivoire Earns ACA Seal Approval
Last week, the African Cashew Alliance celebrated the expansion of its Seal program by welcoming CASA, located in Bouake, Cote d'Ivoire, to its family of Seal-certified cashew processors. CASA has worked with ACA’s team of food safety and quality experts throughout the past several months to finally become certified in February 2015. As the first Ivorian processor to achieve this industry-approved quality standard, it serves as an example and a catalyst for other companies based in the area to follow suit.
The ACA Seal was created in 2012 as a means to improve the safety, quality, and social/labor standards of cashew processing in the African cashew industry. Cashew kernels which are processed in ACA Seal-approved facilities are not only socially responsible, but are also more attractive to consumers who seek the best product available in the market. Companies who achieve the ACA Seal are also much more likely to receive certification in other international standards, such as HACCP and ISO 22000. CASA has joined the ranks of seven other African processors – Tolaro Global, Mim Cashew, Jungle Nuts, Anatrans, Cajou Espoir, Equatorial Nut Processors, and FoodPro – who have raised the bar for cashew processing.
